Carry On

So you don't believe America is dead yet?… The President visits the site, not too close and a week late, of the biggest disaster in American history, and won't meet with the Governor, because she lacks respect and is a woman, and a Commiecrat. She also refused to sign her National Guard troops over to the Feds, and even worse, hired a Democrat to run her relief program.

The Secretary of State visits a church in the least affected state, and her contribution is a comment that "God takes His time." Him and George Bush.

The leading philosophical commentator of the Conservatives opines that it was a waste of time to rescue the people of New Orleans because they are all dope addicts and whores anyway.

The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency is some jerk who used to put on horse shows and was the college room-mate of the last hack to hold that office. Aforesaid last hack was Georgie's campaign manager.

Karl "Confirmed Bachelor" Rove has turned from smearing Cindy Sheehan to smearing the Governor of Louisiana. He's hell on middle aged women, as long as they are at a safe distance.

The USS Marine Assault ship, "The Bataan" was kept away from the disaster, even though it was the closest unit to the action. It was needed where it was to defend against any attack from Cuba or Venezuela. Or something. Two hospital ships are on the way from Norfolk and San Diego, and will be there in "The Lord's Good Time."

FEMA has mostly used its powers to keep undisciplined doctors and relief efforts away from the action, lest they steal a headline or two. Mayors of desolated cities ask; "What's a FEMA?"

The news media concentrate on the forgone Supreme Court nomination instead of the disaster. It's a lot closer, and they won't have to get their Italian loafers (just like OJ's) wet. Can't risk a bad hair day.

And Halliburton got the contract to rebuild the Naval installations damaged in the storm. Shock was registered by all.

Citizens were allowed to pray.

I thought the South was all about "States Rights." Well, Louisiana, step up to the plate. You've been told since 1986 (and probably before, according to one network) that your levies were only good for catagory/level 3 hurricanes. With water pumps running 24 hours a day for the last few decades to pump the seepage out, how long did you think you could thumb your nose at inevitability? Besides, who but an imbecile would design a city below sea level next to the sea?
